The former Arts & Letters has been revolutionized into the new @somersetsantabarbara, an old world European Grand Cafe designed to be a classic. End the night with Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone at the Arlington Theater 8pm for the 32nd Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

SBIFF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts and education organization dedicated to making a positive impact utilizing the power of film. SBIFF is a year-round organization that is best known for its main film festival that takes place each year in February. Over the past 31 years the Santa Barbara International Film Festival has become one of the leading film festivals in the United States – attracting 90,000 attendees and offering 11 days of 200+ films, tributes and symposiums. We bring the best of independent and international cinema to Santa Barbara all year, even more so with the recent acquisition of the historic and beloved Riviera Theatre as our new home for our year-round programming. We continue to expand our year-round operation to include a wide range of educational programming, fulfilling our mission to engage, enrich and inspire our community through film.

2017 Outstanding Performers of the Year Award

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling will be presented with the 2017 Outstanding Performers of the Year award at a tribute moderated by Roger Durling on Friday, February 3, 2017 for their remarkable performances in Damien Chazelle’s dazzling La La Land, from Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment label. This marks the first time Stone has been honored by the festival and will be a return for Gosling who was the inaugural recipient of the Cinema Vanguard Award in 2008.

2017 Virtuosos Award
4 FEBRUARY, 2017

Location: Arlington Center for the Performing Arts

The recipients of the 2017 Virtuosos Award, created to recognize a select group of talent who have distinguished themselves through breakthrough performances in film this past year, will include: Aaron Taylor Johnson (Nocturnal Animals), Dev Patel (Lion), Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures, Moonlight), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Ruth Negga (Loving), Simon Helberg (Florence Foster Jenkins), and Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences). The Award presentation, which will be moderated for the seventh year by Dave Karger, will take place February 4, 2017 at the Arlington Theatre at the 32nd edition of the festival, which runs February 1 to February 11, 2017.

  2017 Cinema Vanguard Award
5 FEBRUARY, 2017

 Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams will be honored with the Cinema Vanguard Award on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the 32nd Festival. The two actors will be celebrated for their remarkable roles in Kenneth Lonergan’s deeply poignant Manchester by the Sea and will be feted with a tribute at the Arlington Theatre. This announcement comes on the heels of their respective Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

 2017 Montecito Award

Isabelle Huppert will receive SBIFF’s prestigious Montecito Award for her critically acclaimed role in Paul Verhoeven’s Elle, a Sony Pictures Classics release. Given to a person in the entertainment industry who has made a great contribution to film, the award will be presented to her at a ceremony on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 moderated by Anne Thompson at the historic Arlington Theatre.

 2017 American Riviera Award
9 FEBRUARY, 2017

                     Time: 8:00pm - 12:00am Location: Arlington Center for the Performing Arts

Jeff Bridges will be honored with SBIFF’s 2017 American Riviera Award on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the historic Arlington Theatre. Bridges will be fêted with a Tribute, moderated by Scott Feinberg, celebrating his illustrious career, culminating with his captivating performance in David Mackenzie’s Hell or High Water, a CBS Films release. The tribute is sponsored by Bella Vista Designs and Classic Party Rentals.

 2017 Closing Night Film: Their Finest
11 FEBRUARY, 2017

             Time: 8:00pm - 12:00amLocation: Arlington Center for the Performing Arts

The 32nd festival will close with the Lone Scherfig’s romantic comedy Their Finest at the Arlington Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 11 in advance of the film’s March 24 stateside release. Their Finest is written by Gaby Chiappe, based on the novel by Lissa Evans and stars Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin, Bill Nighy, Jack Huston, and Richard E. Grant. SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling stated, “Lone’s deeply touching film is authentic, funny and depicts the power that cinema has to bring people together and share their stories. It was the perfect choice to close this year’s festival.”
